Electrochemical processes mediated via adsorbed Enzymes: Flat and porous electrodes Compared. Understanding Nano-confinement

• Adsorbed-enzyme-mediated electrochemical processes are investigated via simulations. Potential dependent Michaelis constants explained. Four classes of voltammograms introduced to help understand current responses. Porous electrodes can create enhanced effective surface coverage and sensing ability. We present theory for electrolysis at electrode surfaces modified by a layer electroactive enzyme which mediate the reduction substrate product. In particular, we compare contrast immobilisation on flat with that porous surfaces. identify conditions under adoption facilitates markedly improves turnover rates develop analysis basis conferring much-increased coverage. For both types electrode, role potential in controlling thermodynamics binding reduced immobilised enzymes is quantified, observation apparent distinct voltammetric responses categorised allowing bottom-up process optimisation.
